Two Members of the Class of 2019 Receive National Merit Scholarship Awards

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced that two members of the Class of 2019 are recipients of a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship award, including Kevin Hou '19 and Zoe Torrey '19.

Of the 1.6 million entrants, some 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores qualify for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program. In September 2018, about 16,000 students, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high scorers, were notified that they qualified as Semifinalists. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation then notified approximately 7,500 Finalists that they have been selected to receive a Merit Scholarship award. Merit Scholarship awards are of three types: National Merit $2,500 Scholarships, Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards, and College-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards.
